YOUR ROLE
Together with our consultants, you will provide the basis for strategic decisions. You will evaluate the costs of components, manufacturing processes and product technologies and support forward-looking developments. With us, you can expect a varied and exciting work environment, whether in the project office or in the benchmark center, where a wide variety of components are disassembled and documented. You will be part of a strong, agile team.
- Support in cost analyses of technical products and components on the basis of hardware teardowns within benchmark projects
- Support in identification and evaluation of cost reduction potentials in close cooperation with interdisciplinary project teams and responsibility for individual work packages
- Support in cost evaluations of technical concepts and solutions for target cost determination in early development phases
- Further development of existing methods and tools for cost calculation
- Preparation of results and research
- Support at customer meetings from preparation to participation and follow-up
YOUR PROFILE
- Enrolled student in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, production engineering or a comparable course of study
- Passion for the technology of today and tomorrow
- Very good analytical and communication skills
- Ideally: First practical experience in the field of production engineering, value analysis or benchmarking desirable
- Sound knowledge in the use of Excel and PowerPoint
- Very good knowledge of English
- High motivation and commitment

Unterstütze uns bei der Weiterentwicklung von Softwaretools die wir zur Strukturierung und Erleichterung der Arbeitsvorgänge am Zentrum für Kunststoffanalyse und -prüfung nutzen.

Das Institut für Kunststoffverarbeitung (IKV) in Industrie und Handwerk an der RWTH Aachen ist eines der größten Institute auf diesem Forschungsgebiet. Mehr als 300 Wissenschaftler arbeiten hier und beantworten Fragestellungen, die sich bei der Verarbeitung der vielfältigen Kunststoffe ergeben. Im Zuge dessen werden sowohl im Bereich der Forschung als auch in Kooperation mit der Industrie vielseitige Analysen und Prüfungen durchgeführt. Zur Strukturierung und Erleichterung der Arbeitsvorgänge wurden einige Softwaretools entwickelt. Diese Softwaretools werden auf Bedarf stetig erweitert, so dass wir im Team Verstärkung benötigen.

HiWi gesucht am IKV im Themenbereich Schaumextrusion
Deine Herausforderung:
Die Arbeitsgruppe Schaumextrusion beschäftigt sich mit der Herstellung physikalisch geschäumter Kunststoffplatten- und folien. Neben der Verarbeitung konventioneller Kunststoffe wie PS, PE und PP liegt ein wesentlicher Fokus auf der Verarbeitung nachhaltiger, bioabbaubarer Kunststoffe wie Polylactid (PLA) oder thermoplastische Stärke (TPS). Hintergrund ist, dass heutige Verpackungen häufig aus fossilen Ressourcen hergestellt und nach ihrer Verwendung verbrannt werden müssen, da sie nicht bioabbaubar sind. In einem aktuellen Forschungsprojekt wird dahingehend eine stärkebasierte, bioabbaubare Schaumfolie auf Basis von beispielsweise Kartoffel- oder Maisstärke entwickelt.
Deine Aufgabe wird es sein, im Rahmen öffentlich geförderter Forschungsprojekte sowie in direkter Zusammenarbeit mit der Industrie bei der praktischen Durchführung von Extrusionsversuchen zu unterstützen. Auch wirst du bei der Entwicklung neuartiger Anlagenkomponenten, Materialzusammensetzungen sowie Prozesskonfigurationen für die Schaumbranche mitwirken und so Verpackungen und ihre Herstellung nachhaltiger gestalten.

As part of a current initiative, we are developing strategies to support the climate-neutral transformation of an industrial business district. The goal is to design future-oriented energy supply concepts – both for individual companies and the site as a whole. The thesis will focus on analyzing energy demands, evaluating centralized and decentralized supply solutions (e.g., district heating, hydrogen, photovoltaics, storage systems, heat pumps), and identifying and quantifying opportunities for coordinated energy generation and use across stakeholders. You will help derive actionable transformation pathways for a concrete industrial site that align industrial energy needs with a scalable, efficient local energy ecosystem. The work combines systems analysis with strategic thinking – bridging engineering and management – and offers direct insights into high-impact decision-making in sustainable industry.
