Website Ubiq Aerospace
Startup in UAV Ice Protection Systems
A key limitation to the operational envelope of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) today is the risk of atmospheric in-flight icing. In contrast to icing in manned aviation, UAV icing is an emerging research topic. Ubiq Aerospace is a company with more than 50 employees developing innovative ice protection systems for UAVs and green aviation concepts such as eVTOL aircraft. We are offering a paid internship at our offices in Trondheim, Norway. The internship may also be combined with a master’s thesis.
This internship is specifically designed for students with a background in structural analysis and/or composites who are eager to actively contribute to the prototyping and manufacturing of UAV propellers and electrothermal heating systems. You will work hands-on with composite materials, fabrication techniques, finite element analysis (FEA) simulation methods, and integration of heating elements into aerodynamic structures. Tasks include simulating, designing, and fabrication ice protection systems for propellers, testing and qualification, support in manufacturing, and icing wind tunnel tests.
Ubiq Aerospace offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary environment at the forefront of UAV and aerospace innovation. The duration is at least 6 months and the start date is flexible, but preferably starts in Autumn or Winter 2026. We offer competitive salary as well as guidance in relocation and finding local accommodation.

§Simulating composite structures, such as wings and propellers, with Abaqus
§Designing and fabricating composite propellers and ice protection components
§Integrating electrothermal heating systems into aerodynamic surfaces
§Performing structural and thermal testing of composite prototypes
§Supporting manufacturing process optimization for lightweight and efficient designs
§Engaging in wind tunnel tests, flight tests, and icing experiments
Requirements
§Background in aerospace engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
§Prior experience with and composite materials, composite prototyping, composite manufacturing processes or similar knowledge.
§Prior experience with FEA methods, preferably with SIMULIA Abaqus.
§Experience with 3D printing, CAD design, and/or PDM is an advantage.
§Good English language skills.
§Independent and reliable work style with a hands-on mindset.
