Then this is your place!

For our Institute of Space Systems in Bremen we are looking for:

Student in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering or similar (f/m/x)
Data Analysis Pipelines for Reusable Launch Vehicles

What to expect:

The Institute of Space Systems in Bremen is dedicated to designing and analyzing future spacecraft and space  missions, including launchers, orbital and exploration systems, and satellites. Our evaluations focus on the technical feasibility, performance and costs of these systems, utilizing a range of cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary engineering methods.

We are seeking a motivated student with experience and interest in data science and machine learning. In this role, you will design, implement, and test components of a data analysis pipeline for reusable launch systems. These pipelines will complement other in-house developments and support ongoing demonstrator projects such as CALLISTO and ReFEx. The overarching objective is to determine and assess the flying qualities of these vehicles using in-flight data.

We currently offer several possible topics for an internship or thesis. Please specify in your application which topic aligns best with your interests:

  1. Definition of data pipeline architecture for flight data exploitation.
  2. Deployment of engineering models as containerized applications.
  3. Exploitation of project document libraries using LLM agents.
  4. Bayesian inference of aerodynamic parameters from numerical and experimental datasets.

What we expect from you:

  • Enrolled bachelor or master student in a relevant field (data science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, etc.).
  • Profound programming and software engineering skills, particularly with Python, GitLab, Linux (Bash), Docker and Docker-Compose.
  • Good English proficiency.
  • Fulfillment of personal requirements for handling export-controlled goods, especially in accordance with the EU Dual-Use Regulation, national export control regulations, and EAR.
  • Experience with software libraries from the machine learning ecosystem desirable, e.g. Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyMC, LangChain, Streamlit, Airflow, or similar
  • Background in aerospace engineering would be a plus
  • German proficiency would be a plus

What we offer:

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular.
