Webseite Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 32,000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.
At the Fraunhofer IPT in Aachen, we work with more than 530 employees every day to make the production of the future more digital, more flexible and more sustainable. In the department »Production metrology«, we deal with the development of advanced measurement systems for diverse applications in production and life sciences.
Within the scope of your thesis, you will investigate and enhance the performance of an existing optical system (Optical Coherence Tomography OCT) for the precise characterization of optical components. You will have access to our state-of-the-art metrology laboratories, equipped with high-end commercial systems, optical simulation tools, CAD software, and a wide range of components for hands-on experimentation.
What you will do
- Development and characterization of specialized optical measurement systems
- Carrying out measurement series and data analysis
- Development of algorithms for characterization of optical components
What you bring to the table
- You are studying optics and photonics, electrical/mechanical engineering, physics, or a comparable subject
- First experiences in handling optical measurement systems
- Solid background in data processing and analysis (background in optics and systems automation is a plus)
- An independent way of working and enjoying interdisciplinary teamwork
- Good language skills in German and/or English
What you can expect
- Ideal conditions for practical experience alongside your studies
