Webseite Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30,800 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.0 billion euros.

At the Fraunhofer IPT in Aachen, we work with more than 530 employees every day to make the production of the future more digital, more flexible and more sustainable. In the department »Precision technology and automation«, we deal with demanding challenges in the manufacturing industry to increase the efficiency of production processes.

Within the scope of your thesis, you will investigate different measurement principles and their applicability for the measurement of geometric errors in machine tools. You will perform simulative and experimental studies to develop a sensor concept using a combination of different measurement principles that is able to detect geometric errors with a sufficiently small measurement uncertainty.

What you will do

  • Support in the metrological detection of geometric errors
  • Conduct simulative and experimental studies to develop a sensor concept
  • Conduct research to identify current trends and developments

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying mechanical engineering, computational engineering science (CES), electrical engineering or a comparable subject
  • Experience in MATLAB and/or Python is advantageous
  • A high degree of initiative, independence and motivation
  • Good language skills in German and/or English

What you can expect

  • Ideal conditions for practical experience alongside your studies
