In the department »High-performance materials«, we focus on thermoplastic fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP). Compared to conventional materials, these are characterized by their high mechanical strength and chemical resistance combined with low weight. This makes them important for almost every branch of industry and thus enables a wide range of applications.

As a student assistant you support our team with the development of systems and processes for winding and laying thermoplastic tapes and also gain insight into current research projects and industrial applications. In addition, you will assist in the preparation and execution of production trials.

The job requires regular attendance at our institute in Aachen. The weekly working time is at least 12 hours. The earliest start date is in February 2026.

  • Support in the development of production systems and processes for filament winding and automated fiber placement of thermoplastic tapes
  • Conducting experiments for research and industrial projects

What you contribute

  • You are studying mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or a comparable subject
  • Basic knowledge of machine design and the fundamentals of textile technology are an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of programming (e.g., Python or MATLAB) is an advantage.
  • You have some experience working with CAD software (preferably SolidWorks)
  • You are able to work independently and enjoy interdisciplinary teamwork
  • You have good language skills in German and/or English
