Coronavirus: Consultations hours only via telephone

Hey Maschi!

From tomorrow, Thursday, 12th March, we only offer our consulation hours via telephone.

This means, you can reach us via telephone at 0241 80 95308, via e-mail or via WhatsApp (0241 80 95308). If you need an exam report for an oral exam, we can send it to you via e-mail. Just write to fsmb@rwth-aachen.de. Please check if your report is available. If you really need a personal consultation hour, ask the person in charge of that topic.

Times for the consultation hours will not change.

Unfortunately, we can not tell you, how long we have to offer our consultation hours via telephone only.

WG Master’s Freshmen at: 18.03.20

Hey Maschi!

on 18th of March at 19 o’clock in the students council, Augustinerbach 6, third floor, the WG Master’s Freshmen takes place. We want to give the Master’s students who are new to us at the university a good start in their studies and give them the opportunity to make new contacts right at the beginning. The whole thing takes place on a much smaller scale than the first semester in the winter semester, as there are far fewer people. We need your help to organize the events (such as a lecture, barbecue, pub crawl, etc.) during this freshman semester.

We want you for the Freshman’s week!

Hey Maschi, we are still looking for someone or a team to organize the Master Freshman’s week. This is an opportunity to get to know the student council work at a smaller event and to take responsibility.

In general, you aren’t on your own when it comes to planning and execution, there are many other students in the student council who have already planned the master’s period or took part in it. There is a network of about 50 active members, who are always happy to take on shifts or help you if time is tide. Furthermore, there are packing lists and shopping lists from the last years, which you can fall back on.

The master’s freshman’s week takes place in the first week of upcoming semester. (06.04.2020-09.04.2020) The Friday is a holiday this year due to Easter.

  • General
    • All Events are aimed at students who have completed their Bachelor’s degree at another university and come to us for the Master’s degree.
    • Students should get to know our structures (RWTHonline, Moodle, faculty, student council), university, city and find new friends
    • Inform others that it is taking place -> Send email about the faculty, Instagram, Homepage, Facebook

Example week:

  1. Day: Introduction and project day (e.g. 15-17 h) followed by a barbecue
    • Coordination with the deanery
    • Book a small lecture hall (approx. 50-70 persons), e.g. main building (I, II or III)
    • Organize presentations (older FSler) / adapt presentations further
    • Take master information booklet with you
    • Book Platanen platz or Karman-Courtyard for barbecue
    • Helper schedules for barbecue, (set up/disassemble, barbecue)
  1. Day: Scavenger hunt + pizza + pub crawl (optional, and variable)
    • Cut last year’s route in half
    • Search for tutors for the scavenger hunt (about 3 teams)
    • Order / pick up Pizza
    • Request pubs (2-3 routes) with common end e.g. at home
  1. Day: Games evening ( used to be always on Sunday)
    • Get drinks and snacks
    • Bring in the games box from the student council up

There was also a suggestion to organize tours of the institute. You can also bring in your own ideas and try out new concepts instead of one of the examples in this email. The student council always invites people to workshops for such events, so that those responsible can get feedback on their ideas and include other ideas from interested parties.

Exam cancellation storm Sabine – Update 13.2.2020

Status 12.20.2020 According to our current state of knowledge, the following exams are written on the dates listed below:

Fahrzeugtechnik I: 14.02.2020

Faserstoffe I: 27.02.2020

Höhere Regelungstechnik: 10.03.2020

Mechanik I WI WP, Werkstoffing, TK und Lehramt: 13.03.2020 (lecture hall booking still open)

Produktionsmanagement I & II and Production Management A & B: 23.03.2020 von 8:30 – 14:00 (one after the other)

Check your mails and Moodle what your institutes have written! RWTHonline is not able to send update mails at the moment. If there should be any overlaps or other problems, please contact us or the AStA!

Status 13.02.2020 Frequently asked questions and answers from the legal department:

1. what must be taken into account with regard to a non overlapping alternative date for an examination in question? – The same aspects should be taken into account as for regular exam scheduling. This means that private plans of students (e.g. holidays) cannot be considered. It is sufficient to plan an alternative date for the registered students without overlapping.

2. may students who were not registered for the examination on 10.02. participate in the examination on the alternative date? – In accordance with § 6 Paragraph 3 S. 2 of the ÜPO, participation in the examination requires a corresponding registration. Once the registration phase is over, no further students can register for the alternate date and therefore cannot take part in the examination.

3. when can the earliest alternative date for an affected examination be scheduled? Is there a time regulation regarding communication with students? – We urgently recommend that you adhere to a lead time of at least three working days in order to enable students to cancel an examination without giving reasons in accordance with § 15, paragraph 1, sentence 1 ÜPO. We also recommend that you coordinate the time schedule and communication with the respective student council.

4. may the interval of four weeks between the first and second exam be reduced? – Yes, but it must be ensured that timely registration for teh second exam is still possible. Please also note that, according to § 10 Paragraph 7 S. 3 ÜPO, the reults of the examination mark must be available at least ten days before the second examination.

5. how to inform students of the alternative date? – A good and quick way to reach the affected students is to send them an e-mail. Please note that although RWTHonline has the option “Notification of date change” and a dialog box for sending an e-mail when moving the date to a future date, no e-mail is currently sent to the registered students.

6. in case of doubt, is it permissible to set an alternative date in April for an affected examination? – Yes, provided that this does not conflict with courses. The results of the examinations must be entered by the end of April (cf. § 10 Paragraph 7 S. 6 ÜPO).

Status 11.02.2020: We work closely with the faculty and the teams exam coordination to give you the best possible solution. We hope to be able to give you final dates for the exams tomorrow. The feedback loop between the faculty, room booking, exam planning team and us is still ongoing. The idea is to catch up on the exams over the next weeks. Overlaps with other exams can unfortunately not be prevented. If you are not able to take the exam, or if you have a deadline, please contact us, the AStA or the institute directly. RWTHonline is currently having problems sending e-mails about updated dates, so please check Moodle and the institute’s website regularly. If there are any uncertainties please contact us!
