Student Assistant/HiWi Position (m/f/d)

Conventional oxygenators provide lung support for only a maximum of 30 days due to
insufficient hemocompatibility of the gas exchange membranes. Membrane endothelialization
can extend the application period and has been proven effective in small laboratory models. A
spiral-coil oxygenator might be well suited for this purpose.
In our project, an oxygenator similar to the working principle of Kolobow-designed oxygenator
is designed and manufactured. In this oxygenator type, two silicone membranes are wound up
with a spacer in between for air distribution (gas phase) and blood on the outside (liquid
phase).

We are looking for a highly motivated student who is interested in interdisciplinary
experimental work in the laboratory. The supervision will be in English.

Tasks:

  • Perform established tests on oxygenators
  • Optimizing and fabrication of the gas exchange membrane
  •  Literature research
  • Documentation of results

Qualification:

  • Master student in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or a similar program
  • Experience in CAD and LabVIEW are favorable
  • Ability to work independently and in a team

Starting date: September/October 2022
Duration: 6 months
