In the course of the fourth industrial revolution, modern technologies – such as artificial intelligence or IIOT – are increasingly being integrated into the existing industrial network. As a result, a change from the hierarchical automation pyramid to a fully connected automation network occurs. In the process, the boundaries between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) are increasingly dissolving, which means that cyber-attacks on OT are on the rise and classic solution approaches are reaching their limits. Monitoring industrial network traffic as protective components against malicious attackers offers one solution. Therefore, this thesis aims to support companies in using such network monitoring technologies for production data with a methodical approach, to work out advantages, and to point out challenges. For this purpose, you will closely accompany the set-up of a production environment with the help of components from automation technology and coordinate the use of network monitoring systems. In addition, you will gain valuable insights into the challenges of the networked industry and have the opportunity to communicate with companies undergoing digital transformation.

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a comparable subject
