Due to digitalization and networking, manufacturing companies are increasingly being caught in the cross wires of hackers – often with consequences that threaten their existence. However, technology trends in production, such as artificial intelligence (AI) or 5G, can only be realized in an open and networked production system, which is difficult to reconcile with classic security approaches. Consequently, modern security concepts are needed to provide reliable protection against attacks and enable modern technologies. In this thesis, an automation system for cyberattacks will be developed, which can be used to practically implement solution concepts and present them to industrial companies. The system will be built using well-known manufacturers‘ existing sensors, actuators, and control components. Subsequently, it will be shown which attack vectors exist on the automation system and their consequences.

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying (industrial) engineering, automation technology, or a comparable subject
  • A high degree of motivation, initiative, and team spirit
  • Good language skills in German and/or English
