Student assistant: Development of Numerical Simulation Methods for Machining

In the »High performance cutting« department, we develop technologies aimed at improving machining processes. We utilize numerical simulation approaches to investigate machining processes.
As a student assistant, you will support our team in the development and validation of simulation methods for predicting residual-stress-induced part distortion in aero-engine components. You will also assist with experiments in our state-of-the-art machining facilities.
The position involves 12 – 17 hours per week on-site at our institute in Aachen.
Be part of Change
- Develop simulation software based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Finite Cell Method (FCM)
- Validate the implemented methods using commercial FEM software and experimental measurements.
- Support the design of experiments and the execution of measurement campaigns
What you contribute
- You are studying mechanical engineering, physics or a comparable subject.
- Experience with the application or development of the Finite Element Method is advantageous.
- Experience in object-oriented programming using Python or C++ is required.
- A high degree of independence and motivation.
- Good language skills in English are required. German language skills are advantageous.
