The »High-Performance Cutting« department develops technologies and application-oriented solutions for cutting along the entire process chain – from process design and process simulation to real-time data acquisition during production, consulting, and prototype manufacturing. We aim to eliminate distortion due to residual stresses during the milling and turning processes using simulations. We are looking for a dedicated and motivated student to assist us in further developing our simulation code based on the Finite Cell Method (FCM) to make reliable predictions of distortion.
What you will do
- Benchmarking our FCM code against a commercial FEM code
- Implementation and Verification of new features in the code (e.g. boundary conditions, loadings)
- Participation in machining experiments and use of the results to validate code implementations
What you bring to the table
- You are studying mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science or a comparable subject
- You have initial experience in Python and/or object-oriented programming
- Basic knowledge of the theory and methods in the Finite Element Method (FEM) or similar methods is advantageous
- Good language skills in English, German is beneficial, but not required
